Abort Planned Parenthood
There should be nothing controversial about Republicans refusing to subsidize Planned Parenthood with taxpayer dollars.
However, at last week’s Lexington County Republican Party meeting, Chris Wooten was asked how he justified supporting taxpayer dollars funding Planned Parenthood. Instead of defending the Republican platform and Right to Life principles, he stood up and praised Planned Parenthood for the “other services” they provide.
But here’s the problem: money is fungible. There is no magical pile of “good dollars” and “bad dollars.” When taxpayers fund an organization, they strengthen the organization as a whole. To suggest otherwise is either ignorant at best, or disingenuous.
Furthermore, contrary to how it was presented by Mr. Wooten, Planned Parenthood is not some irreplaceable women’s health provider. They do not provide comprehensive pregnancy care, and what limited healthcare services they offer can already be found at countless women’s clinics across South Carolina that are not tied to abortion or transgender hormone treatments.
Republicans should not be in the business of subsidizing organizations that profit from abortion while simultaneously pushing gender ideology onto vulnerable young people.
The Republican platform is clear: we are the party of life.
Voters deserve representatives who will defend that principle without excuses, loopholes, or carefully worded talking points designed to make Planned Parenthood sound bipartisan.
