At a time when families are stretched thin by rising costs, relief at the pump should be common sense.

There is a bill in the South Carolina House to suspend the gas tax for 60 days, something other states have already done to help hardworking citizens during difficult financial times.

But instead of allowing debate or giving taxpayers a fair hearing, the Columbia Swamp has refused to move the bill in committee and has blocked efforts to bring it to the floor for discussion and a vote.

South Carolinians deserve leaders who will fight for real relief, not protect a broken status quo.
